   The use of credit reports has become a wide spread practice in the insurance   
   industry. The use of Credit Reports regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting   
   Act. Is perfectly legal to use credit reports for insurance underwriting but   
   if the use of the information results in a higher price them the insurance   
   company is required to notify the consumer of the use of his credit report   
   and give him a toll free number where he can call and get a free copy of the   
   report. Everyone knows that credit reports often contain inaccurate   
   information. When insurance companies fail to properly notice consumers of   
   the use of their credit report it results in the consumer having to pay   
   higher prices for insurance. Informed consumers can correct their credit   
   reports and therefore have lower insurance premiums.
