   here's the init string that I've used for USR modems that has never   
   failed to work:   
      
   AT&FE0S0=0S2=255Q0V1X1&B1&H1&R2&T5&A0   
      
   it's worked for every galacticom product I've tried, plus most every   
   thing else.
